LMIEC London-Middlesex Immigrant Employment Council

There are a number of strategies and initiatives underway to counteract skill shortages in Canada's health care sector.

Some updates on these efforts include:

Regional

• Access Centre for Regulated Employment provides provincial licensure information and application submission assistance to internationally trained professionals.
• Fanshawe College offers a Bridging for Internationally Educated Nurses (BIEN) program.
• The South West Local Health Integration Network (HHR Committee) engaged the LMIEC and WIL Employment Connections to deliver a presentation on available recruitment resources.
• Karen Stone from St. Joseph's Health Care participates on the LMIEC Governance Council.
• The South West Health Career Network has created a website to assist employers and workers in the sector. The site includes a job board.

Provincial

• The Office of the Fairness Commissioner is an arm’s-length agency of the Ontario government. Its mandate is to ensure that certain regulated professions have registration practices that are transparent, objective, impartial and fair. Click here to access news story on survey underway.
• Health Force Ontario & HFO Jobs assists internationally educated health professionals living in Ontario to become qualified to practice in the province. The HFO jobs portal contains postings on positions for doctors and nurses.

Federal

• Foreign Credential Referral Office "provides information, path-finding and referral services to help foreign-trained workers succeed and put their skills to work in Canada more quickly."
